AIS coverage

AMSA

Public Australian data, thinned to at most one anonymous AIS record per vessel per hour.

ARA

Named vessel lists containing timestamped AIS records around four stations.

The August lists overlap and sometimes repeat an unchanged record. We count each exact record once.

1 Sixteen AMSA downloads stop at 2 GiB. The truncated files do not contain their final 2,941,988 declared records (5.9%), so those records cannot be read from the downloads.

2 Unqualified “AIS records” means records that provide every field needed to estimate SL: a mapped ship class, same-record positive speed no greater than 50 kn, and positive length. Every AIS record receives SL and fast TL. The AMSA count is after the H01W 200 km boundary; ARA uses its delivered station-area boundary.

How the AIS sets connect

Follow each record path from station through provider to RAM treatment.

AIS set relationshipsSix paths connect four stations with AMSA or ARA and RAM or non-RAM treatment. Juan and Highlighted are nested subsets.1 · STATION2 · PROVIDER3 · TREATMENTJuanHighlightedHA0198,100HA03333HA08932HA103,264AMSA97,549ARA5,080non-RAM88,565RAM14,064

Juan contains 674 records: 609 non-RAM and 65 RAM. The Highlighted 21 sit inside Juan’s RAM path. Ribbon widths use square-root scaling; labels give exact counts.

ARA records by station and hydrophone array

Browse 13,736 distinct ARA records: 11,883 from 2026 August 11 to 25, plus the earlier HA10 data.
